Today Iâm sharing with you one of my favorite decorating tips/tricks â using vintage windows to decorate spaces around your home. I love repurposing old windows and window frames to add that perfect farmhouse look to a space. A few of the many things I love about decorating with old windows are:
- Old windows are cheap, which works great when youâre on a budget
- They are easy to find in different shapes and sizes
- They add instant character and charm to your space
- You can add items to them easily like wreaths, flowers, or signs
- The possibilities are endless if you just get creative
Iâm gonna show you a few ways I repurpose vintage windows in my home.
1. IN A COLLAGE WALL
My entryway includes other salvaged items to give it that rustic look, and as you can see an old window frame is the perfect addition in this space. This wall cost me about $50 for the shutter, window, and old bed headboard. I also have a mirror that looks like a window, which I love!!
2. ON A WALL WITH A SHELF
I found this window for $5 at a yard sale, which makes for the perfect budget friendly find. The board above the frame just happened to fit the size of my window and I added brackets to it. Then, I added the shelf to the top of my window to give the space a little something extra. I love the large size of it too and how easy it is to add signs or wreaths to the middle of it. This added so much character to my boring hallway.
3. AS A ROOM DIVIDER
This is my favorite use of an old window on the list! I found this window for $5 at a garage sale as well, and after adding this table behind my couch I knew I wanted something to divide the space. So, I had the idea of suspending the window from the ceiling, and love I how it turned out! Itâs a great room divider because it still lets plenty of light through and allows you to see the other room while adding a fun touch. If you want to recreate this look in your space, check out my farmhouse hanging window tutorial.
Here is a view of same window from the opposite side of the room.
4. JUST FOR DECOR
This one is simple. I love to decorate with old windows by just hanging them on a wall or propping them up as a background on top of a piece of furniture. Iâve even used an old widow frame as an underlay on top of a table. In my dining room, I found two matching vintage window frames that I put on each side of my window. I also used it as a backdrop and filler in my vignette on top of my hutch. Both frames are white and chippy, which is just my style.
5. WITH A WREATH
I have this window in my living room behind my chair, and I try to always have a wreath in the middle of this one. With each new season and holiday I change our the wreath to match the occasion. A window behind a wreath adds instant character to your wreath, and itâs a super easy way to decorate with an old window or frame.
As you can tell I love to decorate with old windows and these are my 5 ideas to get you started. The possibilities are endless with these, and I would encourage you to get creative when using them in your home. The great thing about these windows is they are an inexpensive way to add character to your space. Hope you enjoyed the post, and I would love to see how you are repurposing old windows to use in your space.

Just love the color you use. Love anything white and white wash. I was raised in a house with so much of the dark colors that I vowed when I had my own place, I would simply stick with the whites. Thank you for sharing your blog. Itâs stunning.
