My kitchen dining area got a cottage-inspired makeover! If you saw my laundry room makeover I did a couple of weeks ago, I absolutely fell in love with the cottage-style esthetic that I gave that room and wanted to carry it into my kitchen dining area. Before this makeover, it had a more modern farmhouse look to it, but I knew a few simple changes could carry the cottage-inspired look into this space as well. All it took was a new rug, artwork, and a shelf makeover to give it a fresh new look!

A few small changes made a big difference! I wanted to get away from the simply black and white look that my eating area has always had. I brought in the accent color green using this pretty artwork from Hobby Lobby. Since I painted my laundry room cabinets green along with my entryway cubbies, I knew that was the color to incorporate into my kitchen.
I also added some green boxes and some rattan details. I absolutely fell in love with this rattan planter from Hearth and Hands new line. Also, I added the cutest little lamp with a green gingham shade to add some pattern. Love how it now ties in with my bar stools!
Next, I decided to give my shelves a little makeover. I replaced my black metal brackets with these wood ones and painted everything white. It was an easy update but made such a huge difference. I love that they are simple but so pretty and perfect for the look I was going for.
I’m a big believer that every room needs a little life, so I added a simple arrangement of faux greenery in a matte black vase. The tone ties in with the chairs and light fixture, and the leaves bring that little breath of nature that cottage-inspired spaces thrive on.
Washable Rug Details
To help bring in that sage color to my eating area, I decided a beautiful rug would pull the look together. I found the Uzuri Washable Area Rug from Boutique Rugs and knew that was exactly what this space needed. It had a vintage-inspired look which I loved, plus it was washable. Perfect for a kitchen dining area!
The main colors in this rug are beige and sage but it also has variations of browns, creams and even a hint of blue. I love the areas where the pattern fades. It is absolutely gorgeous and the perfect rug for this space!
My kitchen wall color is called Garden Wall by Behr and this rug really brought out that color. Before, I never really noticed the color but this rug helped highlight that soft sage color which is another reason why I love this rug!! You can check it out HERE.
I love how this little space feels now. There’s something so warm and inviting about a cottage-style dining area. It’s where comfort meets charm, and functionality blends seamlessly with personality. Our dining space is a perfect example of how a few simple touches can turn an ordinary room into a cozy, cottage-inspired haven.
