I have had so much fun this year getting my house ready for Halloween! It is my family’s favorite holiday, so I thought I would go all out this year to make it extra festive. Today, I am sharing my spooky haunted mansion inspired Halloween mantle. Creating a hauntingly beautiful Halloween mantle is all about blending spooky, rustic, and vintage elements for an eerie atmosphere. I will show you how to add cobwebs, moss, old books, black candles, and sticks to my existing Halloween decor to give it that perfect Halloween touch.
Spooky Halloween Mantle Reveal
This year with my Halloween mantle, I used some items that I already had. My gold mirror was the base, and I layered items around it. I found a pair of gold skeleton candle sticks at a yard sale, and I am obsessed with how scary and fun they are. I also added an old thrifted frame on top of my Target print and a pair of witches boots from HomeGoods.
Now it was time to add some inexpensive items to really elevate the spooky look. Here are a few of my favorites Halloween additions!
- Fake cobwebs (available at most Halloween stores)
- Dried moss
- Sticks or branches (find these outside or purchase them from a craft store)
- A collection of old books (the more weathered, the better)
- Battery operated black candles
I started wrapping my decor in cobwebs which has no rhyme or reason to it. You can do as much or as little as you want. It is inexpensive and looks so creepy. Cobwebs give it that abandoned, haunted look that I was going for. Pull the cobwebs thinly to make them look more realistic, with strands loosely hanging. Let them cascade down the sides of the mantle to give the entire setup a ghostly vibe.
Next, I bought a bag of dried moss and just started tucking it in my frame, in the garland, and on my candlesticks. Love how much the dried Spanish moss added to my Halloween mantle. You can also add black flameless candles to your candlesticks to give it more of a spooky vibe. I especially love how this looks at night.
Another item that is so fun and creepy…..and free is sticks/branches from your yard. Sticks give your space a touch of nature’s creepiness. I added one to my witch vase and thought it was such a fun touch! Don’t be afraid to enhance your sticks with the moss and webs as well.
One new item that I added to my decor this year is this witch’s hat. I found it at Kirkland’s and love how it looks propped on some old books. Old books are another fun and inexpensive addition to your existing decor. You can stack them in small piles, laying some flat and standing others upright to create visual interest. Try to use books with worn covers and yellowed pages to achieve that antique look.
I finished the look off with some broom sticks and I just love how this spooky Halloween mantle came together. Your Halloween mantle is now ready to impress (and scare!) your guests. By layering moss, cobwebs, old books, black candles, and sticks, youâve created a scene that looks straight out of a haunted house. This decoration idea is perfect for Halloween parties or for those who just love to get into the spirit of the season like we do! Stay tuned for more of my Halloween house tour!
