Hello friends and happy Saturday!! I am giddy about todayâs post because Iâm revealing a room that I have never shared with you before. Today, I am going to be sharing my sonâs teen boy bedroom makeover. My son, who is 14, needed a more mature room to grow into. His old room was a mix of old furniture that was actually used in his nursery, dark paint, and just a lot of stuff. His room desperately needed to be simplified. As you will see in the before pictures, he loves comics, so I wanted to make sure to add that in a more mature way. My goal was to create a modern/industrial style room with touches of black and white. I teamed up with Overstock on this project, and I couldnât be happier with how it turned out. Before I share with you the reveal, let me show you what this room looked like before the makeover.
Bedroom BeforeâŠ
Teen Boy Bedroom Reveal
Here is what his room looks like now!! SO much better, right?? The first thing we did was to paint the walls along with adding this pretty black board and batten wall. My vision was to have a dark focal point wall right when you walk in with white in the rest of the room to offset the moody tone. I used Tricorn Black for the board and batten wall and White Dove on the walls and ceiling. Without doing anything else, the lighter color automatically lightened the room up and gave me a beautiful starting point to begin adding furniture and decor.
This room is a mix of modern and industrial with a touch of farmhouse. I brought in some metal, concrete, and leather pieces mixed with simple geometric patterns. In the end, I think we created a space that my son can relax and enjoy as he gets older.
Bunk Bed and Bedding Details
Because this room is long and skinny, I knew we needed bunkbeds against the wall. I found this industrial piping bunkbed from Overstock and knew they would be perfect. This is a queen over queen which is perfect for my 6 foot 7th grader to grow into. This bed is not only beautiful but super sturdy and so well made.
I also love how it looks against the dark wall! I paired it with neutral bedding from Beddyâs to make the bed really pop against the moody wall. You can see all the bedding details HERE!
Reading/Homework Chair
If you have a teenager, then you know that they are either on their computer, playing video games, or doing homework after school, so I wanted to create a cozy space for my son to do that. I added this comfy leather chair in this little corner in his room. I absolutely love how it turned out. This is the space that I wanted to incorporate his love for comics but in a more mature and teenage way. I found some black and white comic prints off of Etsy and hung them in black frames. It was such an inexpensive and easy way to personalize and add character to this space.
Industrial Bookshelf
The next piece that my son wanted was a large bookshelf so he could have a spot to display all of his favorite things. I added some simple decor right now, but I know this bookshelf will be perfect home for his favorite records, Legos, and Funko Pops that he loves to collect. This shelf is so pretty with a perfect blend of wood and metal. I also love the faux wheels that help give it an industrial feel.
Desk Nook Details
This little nook was a space that wasnât really utilized in his old room. After seeing one of my favorite designers use it as a desk area, I knew that would be there perfect solution for this space. I lucked up and found a desk that fit this spot perfectly. Love how it now looks like a custom floating desk. I added this super cute desk chair to create a comfortable space for him to relax and do homework. Now, this little nook is so cute and super functional which makes me so happy!
Dresser And Side Table Details
My son has literally had the same bedroom furniture since he was born, so it was time to give him some bigger and more age appropriate furniture. I found this beautiful dresser and side table set at Overstock and knew that would fit in this space perfectly.
I canât say enough about this bedroom set. The grey tones are so pretty and blend so perfectly in this room. You can see all the details on this bedroom set HERE.
Rug Details
Last but not least is this black geometric rug. This rug really pulled the room together with itâs mix of black, grey, and cream. The pile is so soft and my son absolutely loves this rug!
I hope you enjoyed seeing this transformation as much as I enjoyed putting it all together.
